Flexibility

Took my heart rate a few times during my run and saw that it was getting pretty high on the run intervals so I took things down a notch. Was raining out so by the time I got home I looked like I had jumped into a lake somewhere along the way, someone even shouted out, “Wow, thats a dedicated runner!” LOL, that made me feel pretty good since I have been out of the routine for a while. At least I stayed cooled off!

Felt good to be running again. Was breathless at times but it felt great. Was happy to see that the bronchitis didn’t effect my mile time too much from were I left off. Starting at 2 min run and 1 min walk intervals until my body and lungs get used to me running again and then I will gradually increase the run time.

Accumulated stretching for the 12th and 13th.  Extra stretching on the 13th since I was sore from swimming and bowling on the 12th, especially in the shoulder.

Brian and I took Bandit to the dog park and we walked the perimeter while she raced around with the dogs and played.  It was more of a leisurely walk and I would say about 1.5 miles.  Was very nice.

Looking forward to another power walk on Wednesday night, if I have time I am going to try weights as well. I am not coughing much anymore.  I do get lightheaded though occasionally during the day so I have to watch that, hopefully that won’t last too much longer.

Yay!! I am back to working out!!! I took Bandit for a 2 mile power walk to see how my lungs would do. I did pretty well. No coughing but did feel out of breath for most of it. But thats ok!! I could really feel in my legs, feet and back that I haven’t gone jogging in a long time.

For the rest of the week I will stick to power walking with Bandit to get back into the routine and to let my lungs get used to working harder than they have been. This will be the last week for the inhaler and then I shouldn’t have to take any other medications, which also makes me happy.

Feels so good to be doing something again. :)

Went to the doctor today because I am still coughing and this will be the third week. Turns out I didn’t have the flu but had and still have bronchitis. He but me on antibiotics that should get rid of it in the next 10 days.

So I did 22 minutes of full body strength training. I did one set of 12 reps heavier weights upper and lower. Then jog/walk intervals for 1.04 miles. Didn’t last too long because I started coughing again. Still felt great because like Monday I again had a pretty good stride and no shuffling.

Also did some stretching before and after both the weights and run. Now off to bed for some much needed rest!

Tonight is the first night that I have ever had a stride the entire run and I did not shuffle once during my run. Yay me!!! And it showed in my time because I have a new best time, improved by about 30 seconds I believe, whoohoo!! I am very excited.

I am getting back into the running grove after having been off as stated in my past several posts. So I decided to start with 2 miles and gradually move it up, and start with 5 min run 1 min walk intervals. (I was up to 11 min run before). So I am happy with that especially after I found out my time improved!! Can’t wait for my next run!

Tonight was my first run since the 1/2 marathon on Sunday. When I started my warm up I had an itch to run run run. However, after the first mile my shins started screaming at me to slow down. So, reluctantly I did and walked most and ran a little of the last mile. After about 1.5 miles my hip started hurting then my knee so probably at about 1 3/4 of a mile I just walked the rest. I was a bit discouraged because it almost felt like Monday all over again when I was limping around and blistered after the event. Well not that bad but I guess I expected to be able to do the 2 miles with more success than I had. I will ice my shins and knee tonight and again tomorrow if needed.

Anyway, is it normal to experience this on a 2 mile run after about 5 days since the 1/2 marathon? My next run will be Monday and I plan to do the 2 miles again.

I finished the 1/2 marathon! I am so excited because I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to even finish it since this 1/2 marathon would have been my longest distance. And I am so excited to find and sign up for my next event… YIPEE!!!

The website wasn’t kidding when they said this is the highest paved marathon in the United States, 8150ft at its highest elevation. There were lots of hills but the scenery was beautiful. Being able to look around at the mountains and smell the smells of the mountains and even being alone with not a house or car insight most of the time was great.

Today I am taking it easy because I am SO sore today. I am literally limping around, I have blisters on my feet and unless I am sitting or laying down I can feel every muscle and joint scream. But it was SO worth it!!! I completed my first event and earned my first finisher’s medal. YAY!!

I thought I would be bummed out if I didn’t jog most of it, but even though much of the 13.1 miles I power walked…I don’t care because I crossed the finish line…I even jogged across it. And…my goal was to finish by 10:30am and I finished almost 8 minutes early!!! I am really proud of myself and so is my hubbie because he was a bit worried. He even suprised me at mile 12 to take a picture and cheer me on for that last mile. And then there he was at the finish line!!

I plan to participate in this event next year and challenge myself to get a better time and jog even more of it. My first event was a great experience and really motivating for me.

Last run before the 1/2 marathon on Sunday. I took the pace a little slower than usual because my shins and calves are sore and I want that to go away by Sunday morning. I will also put some ice on them tonight which always helps.

I also did some nice long stretching for 10 minutes after my jog/walk intervals.

I am really excited for Sunday!!! WHOOHOO!!!! :)
