Strength Training


Return to strength training, was pretty good, breathless at times, but felt great.  Very excited to get that back into my routine.  Full body weights and abdominals, 3 lbs, 2 sets, 16 reps.  Hopefully will get back up to 5 lbs again soon.

Pretty busy tonight but hoping to get in an easy 2 mile interval run to see how that goes.  I am excited to see how my lungs do with that because I really want to get back into my running routine.  But tonight getting to bed will be first priority since last night I had about 3 hours of sleep and I want to continue to heal.

Great strength training today! Felt great!! I think that strength training is one of my favorites of the weekly routine. I did full body strength training with free weights and a medicine ball. I did two sets of 12 counting: 1-2-3 up, hold 1, 1-2 down, hold 1 and repeat. That always gets me sweating and by the 2nd set, rep 11 or 12 I wouldn’t be able to do another in good form. I also did 15 reps of my butt ‘n’ gut routine…which I really like - I am all about toning my ghetto booty. :) Stretched about 3 minutes before and 10 minutes after the routine. I love stretching out all the muscles I worked, it always feels great and I always stand a bit taller and with better posture.

I am going to take the advice given regarding my post about the turn around time for the first run after an event. Until the 13 recovery days are up I am going to focus a bit more on swimming and strength training and not do more than 2 miles for each run until the pain subsides or is significantly better. I was glad to read that it isn’t necessary to nix everything…I would hate to waste 13 days of no exercise!!

Full body strength training, less reps and sets with heavier weights. Some butt ‘n’ gut and stretching. Felt great! I feel like I am starting to tone up a bit. YAY!! Weighed myself this morning and I haven’t lost anything in the last week, but I didn’t gain…so that’s great!! Was 188.8 this morning. This is really encouraging because the last few months I would loose about 5 pounds and then gain most of it back the next week. :)

Full body strength training and stretching, short butt ‘n’ gut routine as well. Got home about 30 minutes ago and I have completly lost my motivation for doing my planned run. UGH…I went over my calories as well today. Saturdays are going to be a challenge as I am the only one at work and it gets pretty slow…so as my 12 hour shift stretches on I tend to snack on crap. Anyway…going to try and run tomorrow morning. Haven’t tried running in the morning yet, probably will be nice, cool and quiet since it is Sunday.

Didn’t have alot of time tonight…I went grocery shopping, finally!! No excuses now!! All the healthy food is in the kitchen!!! Anyway…strength training - did less reps and sets and used heavier weights. Upper and lower body and a little ab work. Felt great and worked up a sweat. Now, time for shower and bed!

40 min. of full body strength training, 10 min. butt ‘n’ gut routine, 10 min. flexibility.  Haven’t done strength training in a while.  It feels so good to do it though!!  Afterwards I always feel very strong and I always have better posture.  Did my favorite butt ‘n’ gut routine, which always makes my abs and booty burn.  And ended with some nice stretching…my favorite part of the workout - I get to feel all the muscles that I worked and feel them stretch out and it is very relaxing. 

I am very happy that I got my strength training in today since I couldn’t do it last night.  After work a friend and I went to see Sex and the City and I didn’t get home until about 10pm and had to come to work today at 5:30am so straight to bed I went!  I never watched the tv show but I thought the movie was pretty good and funny.

Tomorrow night I am going to do my first 8 mi. run.  I am very excited and hopefully I won’t be too sore from today.  Only 13 more days until the 1/2 marathon!!!
