Swim

Second swim of the week.  Did one length of freestyle without drowning!!!  Yay me!!  Usually I do the easier strokes, this has definitely given me confidence and motivation to try more next time.  Very excited about that.

Pretty sore today from yesterday’s return to swimming and bowling with friends.  Made sure to stretch alot before, during and after the swim.  Shoulder is pretty tired and sore, making sure to ice it at night.

I have decided that my next event will be the Denver 1/2 Marathon.  Very excited!  I know I don’t have enough time to train to run the entire distance but my goal will be to make better time than the Estes Park 1/2 Marathon from June.  (3:22:36).  This will be 3rd week of Oct.

First swim since bronchitis. Finished the inhaler on Sunday. I was very happy about that since it was making me dizzy and giving me headaches, gotta love side effects.

Anyway, felt great to be swimming again!!! Was pretty slow going and had to take alot of breaks because I was pretty short of breath. It felt so good to get my muscles moving in the water again. Looking forward to swimming tomorrow!!

I love swimming!!! I know I have said that a million times in my posts but I just do. :) Didn’t get many laps in today before the lanes closed but it still was great. I wasn’t far enough along in my Total Immersion book to use the new exercises so I did my usual laps. Then stretched afterwards.

Shoulders are a little sore but that is a given since I haven’t been in the pool in two weeks. Tomorrow I am going to the zoo with a few friends so I will have to get to the pool by 6:30am.

30 minute swim: breast, side and back stroke. I am feeling a lot better today. I can now walk without a limp…lol. The swim really made me feel better to, I felt a difference when I got out of the pool. I also did some stretching which felt nice on the muscles.

In the next few days I will decide on my next event. I am so excited for it!!! Sunday was so motivating for me. I just feel fantastic!!!

Got the boot from the pool today. After about 15 minutes I was told that in 2 minutes the high school swim team had the lap lanes reserved. Would have been nice if the front desk told me that I was paying for a 15 minute lap swim. Ah well…won’t go during that time again.

Laps - breast stroke, side stroke, back stroke, a little freestyle, also used kick board and flippers. Was a nice swim, out of breath a few times, felt like I really worked my back and shoulders. About 5 minutes of stretching after swim.

I did a quick swim this morning with a friend. We spent less time talking so I we both got better workouts. I tried the back stroke and a little bit of freestyle (still woops my a**). My shoulder did much better then expected on the back stroke, so yay!!! :)

Have to put off my first 8 mi jog/walk until tomorrow morning. But thats alright because I have the day off!

Swam with a friend today and it ended up being much more leisurely as we chatted the whole time. Still got some laps in and tried out the flippers and boards, those were pretty fun.

When I got outside to go home I saw that the weather had changed to very windy. So I think I will start taking my running shoes with me when I swim. Then before or after the swim I can get in my run at the Rec.

I keep missing my longs runs, for various reasons, including the fact that I am not planning ahead well enough to ensure that I don’t miss them. The 1/2 marathon is in about 3.5 weeks and I still haven’t gone more than 4 miles…so I may end up walking most of it.

I will keep working on it. On the plus side in the last two months I rarely worked out on my days off (mon, tues and every other wed) and this week I swam on all three days, so that is an improvement! :)

Very nice swim today. Swam 200 more yards in the same amount of time. Same as yesterday - different strokes alternating, no freestyle…next week I hope to start that.

Note to self: adjust new goggles as I look like I may get two black eyes…lol.

Started swimming again today, but for training not for lazin’ around. :) Either way I love to swim, I must have been a fish in a former life…although I definitely need to work on the technique because I don’t swim like one. It was still fun though. My shoulders are very tired, which is good because I think this will be good for the instability in my right shoulder. As long as I focus on what my arms are doing and I avoid the movement that in the past has made my shoulder partially dislocate while swimming I think I am good. I noticed that alot of the movements are similar to therapy that I have done for it in the past, so all around this is a good thing.

Anyway, I think I did pretty well I just alternated between different things, didn’t do much freestyle - at this point it wipes me out and my shoulder hardly lasts very long. So I think in a week or two that should be alot easier for me.

I checked into a Masters Swim class and my Rec. Center offers one but it doesn’t really work with my work schedule right now. I think the main thing at this point is to get more comfortable in the water, practice different strokes, get used to freestyle and then I will see if I can work it around my work schedule somehow.

Anyway…ahhhhhhh….so relaxed….love to swim. (ok, I know I said that like 4 times :) )
